The idea that Jesus\u2019 Galilean disciples would likely have been illiterate is refuted. The claim used by those who say the New Testament was not written in the first century because \u201cJews of Jesus\u2019 time were forbidden from writing down the lessons of their religious teachers, lest they be confused with sacred texts\u201d is also debunked as incorrect (p. 45).<\/p>\n<p>Also in this issue of <em>BAR<\/em> is an article discussing the Simon family ossuaries and the re-discovery of a \u201cvery likely\u201d (p. 47) connection of first century artifacts to Jesus through Simon of Cyrene.
